Shawntel has always had a heart to serve. She believes in the need to provide each and every individual with sustainable and proper access to their basic needs, services, and opportunities.
Shawntel first entered the social impact space in 2016 when she co-founded BMB Solutions, a social enterprise that provided marginalized communities with electricity and water. Since then, she has finished her Masters degree in Sustainability Management and has co-founded both Sustainarumble: a youth podcast on Sustainability in the Philippines and the Philippine Sustainability Network: a network that connects, trains, and supports sustainability practitioners in order to elevate the practice and culture of sustainability in the country.
She has likewise worked as a researcher specializing in social entrepreneurship, sustainability, and pro-environmental communications/marketing, and, over the years, been designing and implementing different workshops and initiatives around sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and the SDGs both in the Philippines and abroad.
Recently, as a response to the coronavirus crisis in the Philippines, she co-founded Walang Iwanan sa One Cainta: a food program that brings economic support to marginalized communities in her town through the provision of food, relief, and other necessities to at least 1000 people everyday, door-to-door. She likewise co-leads #WearTogether, an initiative that manufactures and distributes PPEs to 11 partner hospitals nationwide.
She was a participant at the Global Youth Summit in 2017 and came back as a peer facilitator in 2018. She is a Dalai Lama Fellow and a member of YSI Global’s Program-19 team specifically focused on creating solutions to covid-19 problems.
