Ivato Community Project

Changemaker: Ravelonandro Tiavintsoa Andie

Country of implementation: Madagascar

Madagascar faces significant gender equality challenges (SDG 5). Women experience educational, professional, and familial barriers, with a 28.9% gender wage gap and high domestic violence and child marriage rates. Hiaka, founded by Tiavintsoa, addresses these issues through intersectional community projects. The Ivato Community Project supports 67 mothers from vulnerable neighborhoods, providing a one-year training on business skills and parenting. These women, running small businesses in laundry, housekeeping, and grocery sales, receive monthly courses led by experts. The project aims to enhance their economic activities, improve income, and strengthen their bond with their children, fostering better living conditions and educational outcomes.
